Ever say to yourself...‘I’m right back where I started’?

Updated: Mar 18

Ever had the thought that all the progress you made has evaporated?

Last week I noticed these exact words appear in my mind about an aspect of my business I am working on.

This provided an opportunity to take a deeper look.

When on a journey of healing (nurturing inner wounds that are holding us back), awakening (remember who we truly are, at the core) and transformation (consciously changing how we show up to align with our highest self) it’s normal to experience great leaps forward, slips & trips, small unrecognisable steps of progress, giant slides that feel like they take us down a place or two, and everything in between.

It’s all completely normal.

It’s also all progress.

You see, ‘I’m right back where I started’ is a limiting belief.

It’s also never true. Ever.

No matter where you believe you’re at, you’ve had the experience of making a forward step.

Even if it feels like you’ve slid deeply into an old thought pattern, a limiting way of being, or a smaller version of yourself, you’ve had the taste of change.

That’s significant.

You KNOW you can do it.

So as you climb back on the horse you bring experience and a fresh approach.

Here’s why ‘I’m right back where I started’ is a limiting belief.

Because for each moment you hold onto that belief you’re casting aside your progress.

You’re less aware of the learnings you picked up along the way.

In that moment you’re a victim to your backward step instead of a victor of your progress.

So what's the solution?

Here’s 3 simple steps that will transform that energy.

  • Notice when you’ve dropped into the ‘I’m right back where I started belief’ and become curious. Begin to ask ‘is it True?’

  • Reflect on the progress you made and how it felt to make forward steps

  • Plan your next step by writing down your learnings and how they will support further progress

In the long arc of your life, there really are no backward steps.

Only the step that’s right in front of you.

Your experiences become tools to help you adjust course.

To try again.

Or to do things differently.

You’ve got this!
