Unfairness sucks.
You’ve put in the work to create clients, get the promo, build the team, get the raise and in return you get….nothing.
Nada.
Zip.
Over time perhaps a sense of resentment and entitlement builds.
Perhaps frustration, anger or fury lurk beneath the surface (fight).
Maybe fantasies of leaving and ‘having your say’ creep in (flight).
Or maybe it’s even time to give up entirely (freeze).
As a coach I’m here to tell you what you don’t want to hear but need to get to where you want to go….
The world doesn’t owe you anything and believing it does only harms you.
You tried your best with what you had at the time.
Now you have knowledge to take forward.
Your defeats are someone else's victory.
That last one can sting right….riiiiiiight.
If you took it like a champ, I love you.
If you hate me for me, I love you still.
But it’s true, so don’t shoot the messenger.
Here’s another Truth.
Under the surface anger, resentment, helplessness, hopelessness, entitlement and self doubt DRAIN ENERGY.
When left unchecked these emotions and the thoughts they give rise to produce hormones like cortisol and adrenaline.
Stress hormones evolutionarily designed to be used in short bursts.
This is a simple fact of how the energy of thoughts and emotions work.
Anyone reading this that has undertaken an ELI Assessment and debrief with me knows this.
Yes we can motivate ourselves with this energy for a while but it’s unsustainable and leads to giving up or burning out.
These thoughts and emotions are a totally normal response to perceived unfairness.
The ego understandably wants to keep us safe, to fight to protect ourselves, to not try our hardest to avoid the pain of working so hard and still not getting what we want, or just to run away.
When we choose to be motivated by these energies, we tend not to enjoy the process, therefore we don’t enjoy the result and remain unhappy whether we succeed or not.
The solution is simple and freeing, forgiveness.
Forgive yourself for what you might have done.
Forgive whoever you feel has wronged you.
Forgive the system for how it’s set up.
Forgive the process.
This is the process of letting go of your energetic baggage.
Give yourself permission to be fuelled by the energy of hope, joy and possibility.
When you do this, you create the space to see opportunities and the bigger picture, to be creative and innovate and to pursue goals in a sustainable way.
Be fearless,
